Vehicle Preperation and requirements

Corsica Overland Vehicle preperation

General

To allow us to visit remote areas in our vehicles they must be a few serious points that are adhered to. This reduces the risks and helps you understand what your vehicle will be put through. Each tour is different but the basic principals are the same.

Some companies specialize in hard core off road holiday adventures, we aim more for the overland cultural tours, this means although we spend time on offroad trails and tracks our tours our not hard core full off-road tours, although it is possible we may encounter a rock slide or river crossing which will only be attempted if we have suitable equipment and vehicles, most tours are suitable for all 4x4 vehicles.

This Corsica Tour is mainly dirt roads and there is no planned hard rocky trails.

2 main points are

  • Have your vehicle serviced and checked at least 2-3 weeks before the trip.
  • Only bring what you need, do not overload your vehicle, - biggest mistake people make is they bring too much.

Other common vehicle preparation recommendations.

  • Spares, a few spares, ie belts, Propshaft UJ, wheel bearing, oils etc, this is all dependant on vehicles.
  • A compressor fridge or fridge freezer is highly recommended, not a Thermoelectric cool box, these draw alot of power and don't work in the heat.
  • We recommend you bring most of your food with you, buying fresh food in Morocco is different than Europe,
  • Although roof tents are great for sleeping in they change the center of gravity of your vehicle, not always a good idea.
  • Tires - The biggest and best change to any vehicle, for all trips we recommend a a minimum of all terrain tires, road tires will take punctures and cuts very easily, we have had people turn up with road tires and one vehicle took 3 punctures in a day,
  • Spare Tires - you will need at least 1 full size spare wheel,
  • Recovery points - please ensure you have suitable recovery points both back and front, check you have the screw in point in the vehicle, not only to recover you but you may be asked to assist someone directly infont or behind.
  • There is no water crossing's planned on this tour.

So Basically any well maintained 4x4 vehicle is suitable and heavy modified vehicles are not needed.

I hope this helps but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any questions.
